Writing Workshop Prompts – Collections

I know, late again. My unpredictable timekeeping makes me interesting and enigmatic though, right? Definitely NOT annoying? You can blame the Fibro for Monday’s lateness (Josie swallowed by a post-MADS black hole, urgh) and THIS for yesterday’s (SO EXCITED) but look, I’m here I’m here!

So then. What are we going to be writing about this week?

(For anyone unfamiliar with my Writing Workshop, have a read all about it and browse old workshops here, or if you’re an old hand at this you can started.)

Prompt

This week I want to hear about your collections. (no prizes for guessing where that idea came from)

Tell me about what you hoard, what you collect. Describe it to us, what is it about the things you collect that you love and that draws you to them? Tell us stories behind the things you’ve collected. Where did they come from? Do you know their history? Describe one item, or five, or ten, or whatever you want. What would you collect if you had the spare cash?

Writing Workshop Prompts: Tick Tock

Day late, I know. Shh, let’s pretend you haven’t noticed.

Ready for your new prompt?

(For anyone unfamiliar with my Writing Workshop, have a read all about it and browse old workshops here, or if you’re an old hand at this you can started.)

Prompt

Tick tock tick tock. Time seems to be taking on funny properties in our house just now. There are very little spaces in between things, rushed sleeps and food, in between pounding the pavements and juggling, well, EVERYTHING. Sometimes it seems like it’s getting ever faster, ticktockticktock, yet evey so often you hit a pocket of time that seems to stretch on and on forever, like the time sat in the dark waiting for the boy to finally sleep.

Tick

Tock

So your prompt this week is TIME.

Tell us how time affects your life. Perhaps you could describe those moments when time slips away from you, trying to capture it in words and rhythm, helping us feel what your life feels like when it’s galloping away. Or perhaps you could describe a moment when time seems to slow right down. What do you notice? What grabs your attention, in the rushed moments and the moments of stillness?

What makes you stop? What slows time for you? You could share something from your life now, or from memories past, or make something up! Perhaps you’d like to describe your perfect time-stopping moment.

Writing Workshop Prompts: I wish

Morning you lot. Apologies that the last workshop on ‘gifts’ ended up a bit of a non-event. The blog being down and THEN the stupid mumps – I didn’t stand a chance really. Thank you if you still took part – I hope if you wrote something you still got something out of it even though we didn’t get a chance to share our posts on the linky this time. The new linky for this week’s workshop will be up on Monday (hopefully! Plagues and other acts of God not withstanding!)

(For anyone unfamiliar with my Writing Workshop, have a read all about it and browse old workshops here, or if you’re an old hand at this you can started.)

Prompt

This week I want you to write about a wish.

It could be a simple thing, the first thing you think of – what do you wish for most? What does your head and your heart finish with when you say the words, “I WISH FOR…” It could be a brand new wish or one you’ve carried around with you for a while. It could be well within the realms of possibility, something fairly practical and mundane, or you could let your imagination run wild and dream up the most elaborate fantastical wish you can think of. You could write about a wish from your past – what did you wish for as a child? Have any of them come true? If your wish is something achievable, in theory, what is it that keeps you from it? Do you believe wishes come true simply by hoping for them? Or do you have to be a bit more proactive? How could you make your wish a reality? It could be one wish, or a whole list full, or three, even, if you feel like appealing to a friendly genie. Completely up to you.

Tell me what you wish for!

Writing Workshop Prompts: Gifts

Hey folks. Here’s a new prompt for you – I hope it helps get you writing this week.

I’m feeling quite blessed at the moment. Just in an appreciating-the-good-things way. I’m lucky in that it doesn’t always take a lot to make me happy, but I seem to have been on the receiving end of a whole heap of lovely things and experiences lately. So I wanted a prompt that would help me mark that a little this week.

(For anyone unfamiliar with my Writing Workshop, have a read all about it and browse old workshops here, or if you’re an old hand at this you can started.)

Prompt

Write about a gift – something you gave or were given.

It could be something physical, material, tangible, like a present, or something a bit more abstract, like an experience. It’s up to you how you want to interpret it.

You could write about the experience of receiving/giving, or the thought behind it. What did it change? How did it make you feel? (Not all gifts are always welcome, after all!) Perhaps you could write about your idea of the perfect gift? Something imagined but never received?

As always, the more creative you can be with a simple idea and the more unique you can make it, the better.
